Monroe County, KY School Census: 1880’s through 1890’s transcribed from photocopies of the original document by Dayton Birdwell.

This approximately 200 page book is arranged alphabetically by the Parent/Guardian with mothers name, where that information was available, in italics (unless mother was the parent/guardian, then the father’s name is additional information.) Information regarding the children, besides their name, is their birth date. Since these records were taken over a period of years an attempt was made to merge duplicate households making the entry for that family more complete. Also, during the 1880’s Manlus T. Flippin, former lawyer and judge, wrote a series of Historical sketches on Monroe County for these same school children. Published first in THE ENTERPRISE newspaper, published in Tompkinsville, These sketches were then transcribed by Shelta R. Shrum for inclusion in this publication. The index for this tremendous undertaking includes those names found in the sketches as well as those of the children and names taken from the additional information.  Cost $42.50.
